Affirmation: Looking For Five Stars

I recently visited a friend’s blog. She had wonderful news to share, and I eagerly celebrated with her. I happened to notice at the bottom of her post that people had given that post a five-star rating.

Hmmm. Had anyone given me a five-star rating? Or a four-star rating? Here’s where it gets sad (in that I did this to begin with). I checked my recent blog posts, and sighed. There were no stars at all. Then, I stopped.

Memorial Day: Real Life Sacrifices

Image from pfflyer on A Marine guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

I know I’m a few days early, but I’ve been thinking a lot about Memorial Day and real life sacrifices. Men and women in our military make sacrifices every day on behalf of our country. The honor of Memorial Day seems to be forgotten. Many people view it as a day off work, the day that ushers in the official beginning of summer.

Life, Marking Birthdays, Relationship

Marking Birthdays

When I was a girl, my parents always threw us fun birthday parties. There weren’t fancy. We usually invited neighbor kids and relatives over to celebrate the birthday girl (I come from a family of three girls). Some years, we hung a piñata in the beams that supported the roof over our patio. All the kids took turns whacking the airborne candy dispenser until sweets spilled out onto the ground. We ran all crazy in our large back yard, wearing ourselves out. Then, we’d eat cake and ice-cream, open presents and run wild some more. I loved our parties and how my parents marked our birthdays as special.

Celebrating God’s Plans

Call me a newbie blogger, or just say I had a blonde moment (yes, there is still some naturally blonde hair on my head), but I forgot about writing anything relating to Mother’s Day last week. Yesterday, I remembered again why Mother’s Day is special . . .

As I write this, my husband is driving the four of us to my sister’s house.

Relationship, Words, Words-What Are You Saying

Words: What Are You Saying?

IMG_8161 copyThe saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me,” is a lie. Sometimes those names and mean words cause wounds far deeper than anything sticks or stones inflict. As a child, having names and taunts thrown at me left scars that still sting from time to time.

Catch A Falling Star-Book Review

ImageI’ve known Beth Vogt for many years, and I’m privileged to call her friend. We met when our Air Force husbands were stationed in Colorado Springs–um, a long time ago. She is one of the most gracious, encouraging people I know.

When she began writing fiction, I knew it was only a matter of time before she was published. She has a unique voice–fun and honest. Her debut novel, Wish You Were Here, was a great read. Catch A Falling Star, her latest novel, takes her gift for crafting a wonderful story to a whole new level. I loved it! And, I’m not just saying that because she’s my friend. It’s one of my favorite books of 2013.

What Are You Hungry For?

Recently, my friend, Mary, stopped by for a chat. Mary is working to develop better eating habits. Her friend gave her a question to ponder before she opens the refrigerator. “What are you hungry for?”
